hello...

like most people here i am caught in one of those never ending binds and i need advice more than anything to get myself out of it. I am a single mome. I had to send my oldest daughter to live 1500 miles away with her father (who is a very good father i may add) due to much strain and difficulty. I have two younger children who i fought tooth and nail to get bastardized through the courts due to an abusive drug addict father. I of course won due to his building criminal history & treatments in psych centers during the time of separation until i divoce finalization. the judge only let me have them because of my job & income stability..I had a great job, great income i had no fears in being totally alone. however changes in economy ive been laid off due to down sizing, branches merging & lack of volume for work...5times in the past 3years. My profession of choice is not what you would call "recession proof" . I am currently getting unemployment and living with my alcoholic mother (whom i want to get away from terribly) but i have no choice. I havent been able to find a job in months. I cant let my kids grow up in this type of environment for the next two-three years so i can get into nursing school so we can get out back on our own. I love my mom but- i remember growing up with her as my mother....there was a reason i lived with my father when they divorced. I have an appointment to talk to admissions at the school in the next couple of weeks im going to have to do it all grants (obviously) ....but are there any housing assistance opportunities out there for parents in my position?  time is running out on my unemployment with only 2calls on my resume to find out i was over qualified...come on! i would have taken it for lesser pay! I really feel like im in a total loss here....the reason i fought so hard for my kids and i put them right back in the environment i dont want them to grow up in. Do you know what its like to come home from your only job interview in months and ask your mother whats wrong with your 3yr old daughter and her tell you "oh she just swallowed a part of my valium she found on the floor, she will be fine" then go to the er and the dr make accusations toward you????....its truly terrifying..i cant even go on an interview. i cant leave my kids alone here. who knows what would happen next.

any advice or suggestions you can offer will be more than just noted. i havent found anything in houston in the area for housing assistance. . . . or a job........
